We are Shawn and Amie Bristol, co-founders of HMC Performance Coatings and we provide quality custom and industrial powder coating and media blasting services. It also demands the spirit of partnership which is where our story begins.
Our History
Shawn and I learned the value of our partnership back in early elementary school while riding the bus, aka “Stinky Twinkie”. It was a partnership formed for entertainment purposes to pass the time, but also for achieving the shared goal of avoiding getting stuck sitting next to the “chronic puker”, my little sister. Though young, our partnership was based on trust, common interests and the ability to see humor in life.
It was time
Nothing tests a partnership like marriage, but three grown children and four dogs later, we still make each other laugh. Successful in our professional lives, we were ready to put our partnership to a new challenge; entrepreneurship. While mastering powder coating as a hobby, we were confident in our ability to make major contributions to the industry. Judges evaluate Kansas City-area companies on financial stability, ability to overcome adversity and challenges, community involvement, distinguishing or defining characteristics, and company vision.

The Chemical Coaters Association International is a technical and professional organization that provides information and training on surface coating technologies. GOOD WORKS
Dirt Works Studio
HMC focuses time and resources on likeminded industry programs. One such program is Dirt Works Studio, a design/build studio taught at the University of Kansas. Architect students design and build an entire project over the course of one semester. We work collaboratively with these students on various community projects. As a result, we proudly partnered with Dirt Works in their award-winning Sensory Pavilion. This partnership not only benefits our community as a result of the projects created by these students, but it also provides budding architects learning opportunities beyond the classroom walls that they will take with them into their careers.

Van Go, Inc.
Other service community partnerships are on-going, consequently allowing us to share our professional talents with the various projects spearheaded by others. Van go, Inc is an arts-based social service agency. They provides year-round after-school and summer job training programs to high-needs and under-served youth, ages 14-24. HMC provides media blasting services to various metal substrates to be used as a creative outlet. Due to this contribution, the youth use these metals to showcase and auction their pieces of art at their annual “What Floats Your Boat” fundraiser in an effort to provide additional opportunities for our youth.

Always and Furever Midwest Animal Sanctuary
“Blessed is the person who has earned the LOVE of an old dog” – S.J. Seward
As a result of being loved unconditionally by our loyal, sweet, Twizzler eating Weimaraner for 16 years, we’re inspired to sponsor Always and Furever. They provide a safe, loving refuge for homeless senior dogs. Residents are available for adoption, but until then, each senior lives in a comfortable living room setting with lots of space to relax. These gentle seniors romp outside in fenced grounds at beautiful Ever After Farm.

Remembering Justin
HMC is proud to be a sponsor Remembering Justin, a 501 (c0(3) public charity. Due to an unforseen tradgedy, this charity was created to honor the life of a remarkable young hometown man. Each year, McLouth Seniors are eligible to be awarded the Justin Johnston Memorial Scholarship while providing opportunities to other youth striving to make a difference in the lives of others.
